My mixed media work focuses on capturing the beauty in nature using a rich textural element that plays with color and context to create a strong visual impact. My favorite medium for painting is, by far, encaustic wax. In fact, you could call it an obsession. Encaustic is a mixture of beeswax, dammer resin, and pigment and dates back to ancient Egyptian portraits of 1000 BC. If watercolor and acrylic had a baby, it would be encaustic. I love the fluidity of the medium when melted and how it can be manipulated in a variety of textures when cooled.
A native of Northern Virginia, Anne began painting at a young age and developed a love of working with a variety of media and vintage objects. After her 15 year career in arts marketing and fundraising, Anne chose to follow her passion for painting full-time. She received her professional decorative arts training through the Corcoran School of Art at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. In 1999, she established Anne Stine Decorative Painting and delighted clients with her beautiful murals until 2014 when she shifted her focus to original art work.
Stine's work has been exhibited at Triste Gallery, Leesburg; Gateway Gallery, Round Hill; Etc., Round Hill; Franklin Park, Purcellville; and several local retail stores. Recent juried art shows include WLAST 2016, CHAT 2016, Bluemont Fair 2016, Heritage Wine Ball Middleburg 2016.
Offering on tour: Mixed media paintings made from a combination of encaustic wax, pastels, shellac, photographs, oil paint, and found objects.
