About DaVinci Art Studio

The DaVinci Art Studio provides various exciting opportunities for people with disabilities — all abilities! — to enjoy the multiple benefits of making art. The creative process can help focus, relax, express oneself, discover the world, communicate an idea, and practice decision-making skills. The artist gets to choose, and is always right! DaVinci is a program of VSA of Loudoun County. VSA is an international non-profit 501(c)3 organization, and was originally an acronym for "Very Special Arts." The three letters now represent "Vision of an inclusive community, Strength in shared resources, and Artistic expression that unites us all." Our mission is to provide creative opportunities to people with disabilities in an inclusive community, through the performing and visual arts. The love of art and art-making is the common purpose that has continuously brought participants to DaVinci's Open Studio since it's inception in 2001 — some adults have attended since the very first session! They come — and come back — because the creative process is valuable. The DaVinci Open Studio is designed for artists 16 years and older to work on their own art and ideas in a variety of media, at their own pace, while getting personalized instruction. There is also an on-going "Art Group" designed to encourage self-expression and an interesting way to connect with peers. Artwork is shared and discussed with the group, offering a chance to not only discover art, but also something about oneself and each other. In addition, there is a "Young DaVinci" program that runs throughout the school year for children of all ages, offering workshops taught by area artists in a variety of media. The DaVinci Art Studio is very much about process, the act of creating, and of doing so in a social environment. The art, or product, created by DaVinci artists is as unique as the individual who made it, beautiful in its authenticity. VSA/DaVinci Art Studio works in partnership with Franklin Park Arts Center, Paxton Campus, and the Round Hill Arts Center, offering creative opportunities for all ages. Participants are inspired by ever-changing exhibits, meet local artists, are exposed to a variety of media, styles, and techniques, and have multiple opportunities to show and offer work for sale.
