Our success is a outgrowth of our marriage and creative partnership. We work intimately together to create heirloom pieces from the design stage through completion. One will come up with an idea, usually sketch it out, bounce it off the other for thoughts/revisions until an agreement is made on the final design. A finished piece may have a portion spun by Stuart and a portion cast from a hand-carved mold by Karen. This lovely mix of expertise by each artist creates the well-loved style of K & S Pewter. Even our logo, an intertwined K (for Karen) and an S (for Stuart), epitomizes the two of us working together as one.
Stuart and Karen have been pewtersmithing for over 35 years. Historically a very colonial craft, the Helbles continue to use the traditional methods of hammering, spinning, and casting to create both functional and decorative pieces. Well known for their fine finishing, their pieces sport a signature lustrous shine. They have exhibited for many years at Mount Vernon and the Waterford Fair, educating the public on the history of pewter and the many methods of working with it. They are blessed with a wonderful family and have enjoyed living in Loudoun County since 1984.
Offering on tour: Handcrafted pewter candlesticks, bowls, pins, ornaments, etc. Engraving available on selected items. Demonstrations.
