Artist Statement

We create wood-fired functional pottery, wheel thrown and altered by me (and my wife, Debbie). Our studio is home to the Butterfly Bend Kiln, a three chamber anagama (“cave”) noborigama (“step-climbing”) Japanese style multi-chambered wood fire kiln. We fire it for 8 days with a crew of 12 potters, once, sometimes twice a year.

I love the wood fire experience. I want pots heavy enough to endure the long firing yet light enough to use. I want the rugged look from the fire and ash, but refined enough for people to use with comfort.
