My goal is to create paintings that show my love of nature and animals and express the essence and emotions of the subject. I consciously reduce details, keeping my brushstrokes loose and impressionistic, allowing the viewer a more personal interpretation of the image. It is more important to me that a painting is beautiful and compelling rather than true to reality. I find many of my inspirations from the rural areas and farms in Western Loudoun County and from my travels to other countries.
Ute Gil was born in a Germany and took her first art classes as a teenager, learning traditional folk and silk painting. This gave her the foundation for painting and ignited her love of art. In her early 20s, she moved to Spain for three years and took lessons using pastel and oil. After her move to the US in 1990, she took a break from painting to raise her children.
Since 2003, Ute has attended workshops from renowned artists such as Kurt Schwarz, Maggie Siner, Diane Tesler, Sara Linda Poly and Katherine Riedel. And while she loves painting all kinds of subjects, animals are her favorite. She specializes in commission pet portraits.
Oil is her preferred medium because of its textural qualities. Her work has been displayed at many local art shows.
Offering on tour: Original oil paintings from very small to large. Oil painting demonstrations. Light refreshments.
