The
Blue Ridge Spinners and Weavers Guild began as a gathering of
10/15 friends in 2002 who shared their passion for fiber. To date,
our membership exceeds 70. Members’ levels of interests run the
gambit, whether raising fiber producing animals such as, Llamas,
Sheep, Bunnies, Goats, Alpacas and more, or processing the fiber
for spinning or felting, to using the processed fiber to knit,
weave, crochet or felt to create finished and commissioned goods,
all are committed to putting forth their finest efforts in fiber
products.
In an effort to educate all in the
various aspects of fiber, you will often see members of BRSWG
at various Fairs, Festivals and Local Events demonstrating a “fleece
to shawl or scarf”. This involves a couple of spinners carding
or combing the fiber, then spinning it to yarn for the weaver
to use to weave a shawl or scarf. Sheep to Shawl competitions
include the shearing of a sheep for the fiber to be spun. Several
members of BRSWG have competed in local and national Sheep to
Shawl contests, finishing in award winning positions.
Many BRSWG members have award winning
fiber animals and there are several members who have won awards
for their finished goods.
The BRSWG is proud to be a guest
of the Purcellville Train Depot during the WLAST. There will be
a lot to see and do during your visit with us and we look forward
to meeting you!!!!!!!!!!
All aspects of fiber products will
be available for purchase. From raw fleece, bats, roving, hand
spun or hand dyed yarn to finely finished goods of rugs, scarves,
sweaters, napkins, table runners, fashion accessories and more.
