About
the Artist:
Chip York is a father who stays at home for his two
daughters. A husband to a wonderful life partner. A lover of
whimsy and mirth. A man who is thankful for small blessings.
His career
began in 1991, with two major catalysts: Chip married his
Muse, and received a camera from his uncle, an ancient
Korean War-relic 35mm. Using this camera as a tool for self
expression, he has since expanded his skills and vision. It
was a melancholy moment for him when he realized that this
camera was gathering dust as digital equipment started to
replace it.
The
encouragement of his friends, particularly women for whom he
had done glamour, boudoir and art photography, lead him to
make the choice to become a professional photographer. Their
reactions to his work revealed that he could show someone
their own splendor through his photography.
Chip
prefers to work using "everyday" people as models in
settings where they are comfortable, and having objects that
reflect that person's life around them. "The modern standard
of production style photos, along with the airbrushed
fashion clones that we are bombarded with in our everyday
life, lack any ties to reality or intimacy and have no
charm."
For
portraits he focuses instead on character. "Your portraits
should reflect who you are – your interests and
personality." His favorite aspect of his work is capturing
the splendor of people, to their own surprise and delight.
Chip
divides his photography time between shooting events and
portraits for clients and pursuing his own artistic vision. |
