About The Artist…

Her
objective is to create original, limited edition oeuvres
dart, signed and numbered, animalier and human character
studies from life size to small table size studies, in
bronze or a combination of metals and patinas to best
express the subject depicted.
The large
sculptures would be specifically done to fit into the
landscaping complementing and functioning together to create
an entire artistic unit. For example, polo ponies in bronze,
patinaed in various colors, with the ponies set directly
into the turf for the effect of the game actually being
played. Another example would be a steeplechase horse
jumping a living hedge, patinaed with the colors of the
owner.
After
completion of the life size Bruce Davidson/ Eagle Lion
sculpture which was recently unveiled at ROLEX 2007, Jean
Clagett was able to permanently move her home and studio,
Atelier West to Upperville, VA, after traveling through the
area for commissions for 20 + years here and abroad.
Jean's
background with horses began with the hunter jumper ring in
Oregon, where she 'recycled' ex- race horses and raised a
few Thoroughbred foals for the show ring. This gave her a
basic horsemanship knowledge which is incorporated into her
equestrian sculptures. Her sculpture career which began in
1985 has led Jean throughout the US and Europe and has
involved her not only with the show jumping but polo,
reining, driving, racing - almost any discipline and breed
of horse.
Jean's
work goes further than most other sculptors, as she also
does the metal finishing and patinas herself, to guarantee
the smallest detail remains accurate to her original model.
Commissions of individual horses and riders are welcome. |
