About The Artist…
An
interest in music and woodworking led me to guitar building.
I have been building and
repairing stringed instruments since1995 after attending The
Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery in Phoenix, Arizona. For
several years I ran an instrument repair and
custom stringed instrument building shop in New Mexico in
the Santa Fe area, called Furnace Mountain Guitar Works.
Upon returning to Virginia I set about learning more about
woodworking and carpentry while working for American
Woodcrafters in Round Hill, VA and then moving with them to
Brunswick, MD. As I was building my current shop in
Neersville, I was able to work part time on various
woodworking and carpentry projects and was soon able to take
on more luthiery work. As of 2005, I have worked full time
out of my home shop and have one full time assistant named
Stuart Orser. Stuart is now doing most of the repair work,
which has allowed me to focus on building new instruments. I
am building mostly custom orders now which include flat top
guitars, arch top guitars, and mandolins. As a repair shop
we work on any stringed instruments, acoustic or electric
including the violin family. We are an Authorized Warranty
Service Center for C.F. Martin and Co. as well as Taylor
Guitars and Fender Musical Instruments. Working on these and
other fine instruments has provided insights into what make
them sound good or bad or truly exceptional. Drawing from
traditional designs and making modest changes, I am always
striving to improve the instruments I make and continue to
enjoy the challenges of making them great looking, great
sounding and a joy to play. |
