About
The Artist...
I began throwing pots back in 2005 when I saw an ad in the paper for lessons with David Norton. It was a match made in heaven, and I've been creating ceramic art work since then. I have continued to study under David Norton and appreciate his eye for form and function. I have also attended various workshops such as wood fired pottery taught by Bill Van Gilder at Arrowmont School for the Arts, clay sculptures taught by Trisha Kyner at Baltimore Clayworks, and surface decorations and textures taught by Deborah Bedwell, also at Baltimore Clayworks.
I enjoy experimenting with different surface texturing and glazes, and seek to understand how each can enhance the other. I frequently use images and motifs from nature, such as pine cones, fish scales, grasses and leaves, and other organic objects. Most of the pottery I produce is functional, as I love to hear someone report back to me "this is my favorite coffee mug (bowl, plate, etc.), I use it all the time!"
Producing pottery and sculpture are a never ending learning process. The artist needs to be able to feel the clay and determine what it is capable of becoming. Creating new and exciting textures and images constantly keeps me intrigued and excited about the next pot I get to create.
