About The Artists…

Waterford Weavers Guild Seven women joined together
to form the Waterford Weavers Guild more than 35 years ago.
They wanted to share their knowledge and love of weaving
with each other and the community at large. Today the guild
has grown to more than 40 members and encompasses a wide
range of fiber arts, from spinning to weaving, dyeing to
felting, beading and embellishment.
They demonstrate weaving and spinning to school and
community groups throughout Northern Virginia and annually
participate in The Waterford Homes Tour and Crafts Show.
They annually sponsor a grant to School Teachers who include
fiber in the regular school curriculum or as an
extracurricular activity.
Since each Guild member pursues his or her own interests,
Guild shows offer a wide range of fiber products. Interests
vary from producing replicas of Colonial table linens and
coverlets on 100 year old barn looms to exploring modern
weaving technology and design using the latest computer
design software and computer controlled looms. Some members
raise their own sheep or rabbits and use the resultant yarn
to knit or felt hats, mittens and scarves. Other members use
modern fibers such as Rayon and Tencel to make scarves and
jackets. Among the members there is a strong interest in the
use of natural fibers such as cotton, silk and wool. |
