About

Large Format (8X10 Film) Analog Photography Hand Produced
My newest work is entirely hand produced Platinum/Palladium prints from 8 X 10 inch negatives…….
Platinum-Palladium printing is one of the earliest forms of photographic printing, dating back to the 1850’s. It was widely accepted as the standard by all fine art and serious photographers up until WWI, when all precious metals became limited or entirely unavailable.
Platinum printing made a recovery after the war years, and was soon taken back into use by the premier and most demanding photographers of that era. Weston, Stieglitz, Penn, Strand, Curtis, Alvarez Bravo, etc.
It is said that platinum prints are an acquired taste. They do not have the same dramatic “contrast punch” typically seen in silver prints, but rather a much softer, subtle range of tones that offer a greater viewing spectrum, giving the print an almost 3-dimensional appearance.

This is a hand coated Platinum/Palladium contact print from an original 8X10 Negative, hand processed in the photographers darkroom by the photographer - Mark Paul Thomas... dimensions are in total inclusive of frame
